Do you work with children or as a play therapist?  Would you like to feel more competent when making ethical decisions regarding minor clients?  Are you trying to minimize your court involvement risks?  If so, this continuing education workshop is for you! This Play Wellness learning experience prepares clinicians with the knowledge and skills to effectively prevent and intervene with regards to ethical challenges with clients 17 years of age and younger and their families in clinical play therapy and counseling practice.  This is a live, in-person workshop that focuses on the following APT training content areas: Play Therapy Applications (6 hours)
Daily Schedule

1:45 pm – 2:45 pm: Training
2:45 pm – 3:00 pm: Break
3:00 pm – 4:30 pm: Training 
Ethics: 17 and Under (6 CEs)
  • Define ethics, review child-related ethical codes, and explore the Play Therapy Best Practices (2016)
  • Recognize seventeen common ethical dilemmas that may occur in counseling and play therapy when working with child and adolescent clients
  • Become familiar with nine guidelines as listed in the Association for Play Therapy’s Paper on Touch (2015)
  • Identify five clinical competencies to consider when using touch in counseling and play therapy
  • Demonstrate therapeutic limit setting for use with minor clients who may display impulsive, difficult, aggressive, and/or sexualized behaviors towards the therapist while providing child counseling and play therapy
  • Explore a counselor risk assessment to evaluate risk exposure along with areas for growth
  • Review seven essential elements of informed consent when working with minors in play therapy
  • Explore potential ethical dilemmas and practice applying a decision making model, ethical codes/state laws, and play therapy best practices and policies
This workshop provides (6) continuing education hours.  Certificates are issued at the end of the workshop pending full attendance and completion of the workshop evaluation.  ​

​Play Therapists: Play Wellness LLC has been approved as a continuing education provider by the Association for Play Therapy: APT Approved Provider 16-449.  Per the Association for Play Therapy (APT), play therapy training may not be awarded to non-mental health professionals.   APT alone holds the right to accept or deny any continuing education training at its discretion. 

Counselors: Play Wellness LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6828.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Play Wellness LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.  

Other Professionals: This course qualifies for 6 hours of instructional content as required by many national, state and local licensing boards and professional organizations.  Retain your certificate of completion and contact your board or organization for specific filing requirements.
ABILITIES: Play Wellness is glad to make reasonable efforts to accommodate participants with different abilities. If the participant needs ADA accommodations, the participant needs to discuss his/her specific needs and make the necessary arrangements before registering and with at least ten (10) business days advanced notice via phone at 678-395-4965 or email at training@playwellness.net.

ATTENDANCE: By registering for the workshop, the participant is pledging to arrive on time and stay for the duration of the workshop. Per associations that grant CEs, participants who arrive late or depart early from the workshop will forfeit CEs for the entire workshop. Handouts are not provided to participants who miss the training. If the participant misplaces a CE certificate, there is a $25 replacement fee. 

CANCELLATIONS: Written cancellation requests that are emailed to training@playwellness.net with at least 10 business days prior to the selected training will be provided a refund minus a $40 per training day processing fee. Credit/refunds are not provided for scheduled trainings that are cancelled with less than ten business days of notice. Play Wellness LLC reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to inclement weather or instructor illness/emergency. When applicable, participants will be notified via email prior to the date of the cancelled workshop. Participants will be emailed information regarding the rescheduled date within ten business days of the cancelled workshop.

CAPACITY: Play Wellness reserves the right to change locations, formats, and/or offer additional dates and times for workshops that do not have enough registrants or that are full to capacity. Participants will be provided with advanced notice if applicable. 

GRIEVANCE: Play Wellness desires for you to receive quality training in a fun learning environment. If the participant has a concern regarding any aspect of the workshop, it is expected that the participant will address it with the continuing education chair, Yolanda Fountain, Ph.D., LPC, RPT-S, ACS, NCC, via verbal and/or written documentation aimed at achieving a satisfactory resolution for the participant. To assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, the advisory committee may be included in the process.

Yolanda Fountain, Ph.D., LPC, RPT-S, ACS, NCC is the founder of Play Wellness LLC and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S), an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).  She earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Mercer University and a post-graduate certificate in Working with Survivors of Violence, Torture, and Trauma from the University of Maryland.
 
Dr. Fountain has worked in the mental/behavioral health field since 2006 in the grade school, community, psychiatric residential, college counseling, and private practice settings.  She specializes in play therapy and sandtray therapy and providing care to business and helping professionals, parents and their infants/children, and trauma survivors.  She has extensive experience in higher education as a counselor, professor, and clinical supervisor.  Dr. Fountain loves and teaches graduate-level play therapy and mental health courses at several universities.  She has also presented at local, regional, national, and international conferences on multiple topics related to mental health (wellness and illness).  Dr. Fountain strongly advocates for the effective care and wellbeing of clinicians to stimulate optimal client care and wellness.

Play Wellness’ workshops integrate theory and experiential learning.  Teaching methods often include a lecture with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation, individual/group experiential activities, individual reflection, group discussion, role-playing, case presentations, critical thinking exercises, video review/critique, and/or an e-learning examination. 
Our workshops are evaluated based on the following criterion: 1) Program Objectives, 2) Content, 3) Instructor, 4) Venue/Setting, and 5) Learning.  This workshop has an average rating of 4.9 (on a scale of 1-poor to 5-excellent) by 34 reviewers.
