Dr. Mary Huffstead (she/her/hers) is a wife, mother, counselor educator, therapist, and a "Blaxican" (biracial: Black and Mexican) woman.  Dr. Huffstead has the lived experience of oppression and privilege, which she offers as a lens to her clients.  Her life's mission is to ensure that her clients are met with a well-qualified counselor.  She has a wealth of experience with a diverse client population ranging in age from primary school through adulthood.  Her primary clinical work encompasses anxiety, depression, trauma, work/school issues, family conflict, domestic/interpersonal violence, sexual assault, child abuse or neglect, multiracial identity development, interracial relationships, and transracial adoption issues.  In addition, Dr. Huffstead has extensive training in individual, family, group, and play therapy.
 
Dr. Huffstead is a licensed professional counselor (in the state of Georgia), national board-certified counselor, registered play therapist
, and child and adolescent trauma professional.  She holds a doctorate in Counselor Education and Practice from Georgia State University.  She received her master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University and bachelor's degree in Psychology from Indiana State University.  Dr. Huffstead has provided mental health services since 2013.  She has completed extensive training in Telemental Health to maintain her clients' highest level of care via a virtual platform.  Her approach is grounded in treatment modalities that encourage positive self-reflection, emotional regulations, and skill-building toward change.  In addition, she has sought specialty training in play therapy and trauma.  
 
Dr. Huffstead has been a counseling educator for masters and doctoral level students since 2014.  She currently serves as the Assistant Professor and Clinical Site Coordinator of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Agnes Scott College.  She is the Southern Region Representative for the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, a division within the American Counseling Association.  Dr. Huffstead is a 2018 National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program doctoral fellow.  To contribute to the field of counseling, she has published articles and book chapters and presented a wealth of mental health training/workshops.  Her research interest encompasses multicultural training, clinically serving the Multiracial population, and issues concerning those identifying as LGBTQI+ and living with a chronic illness and/or disability.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, son, family, and friends.  She is an avid “Cross Fitter.”  For more information about Dr. Huffstead, see below (click on the purple tabs to move them):

New client fee: $50
Intake appointment (60-75 min): $250 
50 minute appointment: $175

Professional Counseling Supervision: $125 (intake) and $200/month (including 1 hour of individual and 3 hours of group) 
Consultation: $125/hour (individual)
