This workshop focuses on ethical issues and dilemmas that impact the play therapy supervision climate. Play Therapy supervisors and supervisees are commonly faced with concerns that impede the parallel process. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to address the good, the bad, and the ugly related to supervisory ethical guidelines as shared in the Association for Play Therapy’s Best Practices (2019). Ethical issues that will be addressed include the following: 1) goal setting with supervisees who utilize Child Centered Play Therapy, 2) the use of social media by clients, supervisees, and supervisors, 3) multicultural needs and concerns within the supervisory relationship, 4) balancing challenges related to gatekeeping and challenging supervisee behaviors, and 5) exploring supervisee and supervisor self-care needs. This workshop will include role plays, open discussion on critical issues in supervision practice, and practical activities to aid Registered Play Therapist-Supervisors with enhancing supervision outcomes.
